The C Word

Cancer.

I’m in a nightmare and want to wake up.

Neuroblastoma in her liver and adrenal glands. Biopsy and more testing to come. Definitive answers Friday or Monday.

Jordan and I are completely devastated, but we move forward. We have attacked the nurses and doctors with questions and they have been phenomenal. They are truly Angels from above.

Thank you for the love and prayers, calls and texts. We have heard them, read them and found comfort in them.

Cancer is a word you never want to hear in the same sentence as your child’s name. But this is our journey. Marjorie’s journey. We keep our faith, attempt to stay positive. I just keep telling Marjorie that she will walk down the aisle with her daddy.

Our girl has proved once that miracles happen and prayers work and damn it she will do it again.

McCall, it breaks my heart to hear this. I know Marjorie is a fighter, and anything she faces she can handle and conquer. She has two amazing parents, and an amazing mother who has clearly passed down her fighting genes. Sending all the prayers, love, and comfort my heart can send your way.

She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.

My heart breaks for your family. My best friend had neuroblastoma as well, this really hits a cord with me. We hated the C-word as kids and I hate it more as an adult. Praying for peace, healing, and 100% remission and eradication of the c-word. Marjorie will be a testimony to your family, friends, and readers of God’s faithfulness, healing powers, and your family’s strength and love.

My heart is aching for you guys. My best friend had neuroblastoma, and we hated the c-word and called it just that. I pray for 100% remission and eradication of all signs of the c-word, and I pray she is pain free. Marjorie’s story will be a testimony of God’s healing powers as the great physician, his faithfulness and your family’s strength.

My heart hurts for your baby and your whole family. I had two dreams of Majorie last night – one was of her today and I was holding her and she was smiling – in the second dream she was four years old (she had blond hair cut in a bob with bangs) and she was laughing and telling me about her friends at school. I will be praying for you all – I am confident Miraculous Majorie will continue to be miraculous – my cousin’s daughter had the same cancer when she was two and she just graduated college with honors – keep the faith!

I have followed Marjorie’s journey and she is truly your miracle. God did not bring her to this point in her young life without a purpose. She has beat all the odds once and she will bet them again. God has great plans for her and he will carry her through this. I am sorry your family is face with this horrible journey and I have been praying for all of you all day and will continue to do so. I’m so sorry for all this right now. I wish I can explain myself better in English, but I do can pray for you, and your family. I look for info about what you said and found this:
With treatment, many children with neuroblastoma have a good chance of surviving. In general, neuroblastoma has a better outcome if the cancer hasn’t spread or if the child is younger than 1 year old when it’s diagnosed.
Marjorie is so strong, she is going to be ok. Big hug for you ????

  • Angelique Newsom
    May 27, 2015 at 8:06 pm

Lots of knowledge is so much to digest!. Especially…went it is it is your child! .
But the key is diagnosis….treatment…and outcome. Like a nursing Care plan and options. The tests and labs will tell us what and then parents can dedice. Ultimately…the baby has to take the therapy and see how she performs. Love to all of you!!! Sickness is aweful for God is mighty!!!!I am praying for Marjorie to be a fighter! God Bless!! Daily!!!!

I have seen your posts through a friends facebook page since your water broke when you were just 25 weeks pregnant. I am currently in nursing school and for some reason felt a calling to follow up on Marjorie’s progress. I think you and your daughter inspired me to help Mamas and little ones once I graduate. I do not know you personally but empathize with the long road you and your husband have faced in the past and the present. I pray so hard to the Lord that he wraps you all in his strength and grace throughout this time. There is no doubt you are strong parents and that your baby girl has the strength, stubbornness, and will to fight once again. May the Lord keep you in the palm of his hand.

I came across your blog on facebook….babies and cancer are two words that shouldn’t go together. My son was 6 months old when he was diagnosed with stage IV Neuroblastoma with an amplified gene that made it particularly aggressive. They told us to be happy if he made it to kindergarten. He is now finishing up 4th grade and has remained in remission. Neuroblastoma is a beast. I will keep your family in my prayers. Prayers for recovery. prayers that she is stage 3 or 4s which is highly curable. Prayers for you as I know the anxiety and stress that comes with cancer. I am devastated for you. I live in Baton Rouge, and we have many mutual friends – that’s how I came across your FB page. There is not much I can offer up to you at this point except for a Bible verse that keeps me going daily. Hebrews 11:1 reads (paraphrasing) – Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see. Hey guys! I saw your story on Facebook and wanted you to know that me and my family are praying for y’all. I was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at 3 mos, was treated at St. Jude in Memphis (highly recommend!), and am now 34 and doing cancer research with a healthy little girl of my own due in August. I know that this has to be the scariest thing in the world for y’all so if you ever need someone to talk to with a little experience with this (especially the long-term survivor details) I’d be happy to talk! My email is [email protected]. Sending much love and happy thoughts your way, Allyson Anding

I began following your FB page, Southern Smash, when Shea shared a post from it. She and I worked briefly together in Charlotte, NC. There’s nothing I can say other than I will be praying for your family.

Found you randomly on Instagram and have been following since Marjorie’s early debute. Y’all have been in my prayers and will continue to be. My husband and I live in Texas. We’ve been married less than 2 years and lost our first child during pregnancy last summer. My hearts still aches but I know God has a plan. I would love to take a moment and just pray for y’all 🙂

    Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the miracles you work every moment of every day. You are our savior. Thank you for saving Marjorie and blessing her entire family tenfold. We know you have a plan to prosper each of us (Jeremiah 29:11) and we trust Your Will Lord. Your way is better than ours, always. We can endure all things through Christ who gives us strength (Phil. 4:13). You are the ultimate healer and protector. We love you so much Lord. We lift Marjorie up to you and pray Psalm 91 over her. Lord guide every caretaker that works with Marjorie, give them wisdom (James 1:5). We thank you Lord for healing Marjorie’s body right now in the name, power and blood of Jesus. You are bigger than all of this and we trust you. Thank you for saving sweet Marjorie and protecting the entire family with your guardian angels. Lord thank you for never leaving or forsaking us (Deut. 31:6). We need you every moment of every day. We love you and pray all of this in your Son’s Holy name, Amen.

    Much love from Texas,

    Sarah

I know of a beautiful, Godly woman named Dabney who is a cancer survivor and is now awaiting open heart surgery. She wrote a book called “When God Intervenes”. My heart tells me it may touch you during this time. She also has a great blog. Dabney Hedergard is her full name.

    1 Peter 5:8-11 (MSG)

“Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does.”

    Romans 8:26-28 (MSG)

“Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.”

As a mom of two young girls, my heart is breaking but there is a greater purpose to all of this and I sense you know that.
Cancer, disease, heartbreak…those are the devil’s work. God is greater than ANY of it.

I know exactly how you feel. My daughter Margaux was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Stage 4s at 5 months old. It is surreal, terrifying, stressful, heartbreaking, etc. And that just scratches the surface. But know you can get through this situation. I will keep Marjorie and your family in my constant thoughts and prayers. From what I have read, I know she is a fighter!

    Prayers for you all!

I have stumbled across your blog and wanted you to know you are all so loved and prayed for! My best friends little girl seemingly was just diagnosed with the same devastating news. Same down to the adrenal glands. The journey will be tough, but one thing to know is the Lord is with you all through it all!

I went to St. Joseph’s Academy and I came across a post about your little girl. She is simply beautiful and breathtaking! I am so sorry and sad to hear about the diagnosis. I cannot imagine how much strength it takes to hear such news about your child and still have to function day to day. But I will keep her in my prayers everyday. She is a beautiful strong girl!

i don’t know where you hale from and I just stumbled across your blog, but if you aren’t already here, bring her to Memphis! There is no where in the world like St Jude Cancer Hospital for Children. If anyone can save her, if u want to give her the best shot at recovery, it will be at St Jude… They are the best at what they do! Prayers for your sweet family and precious child.

While I agree with The Southern Reaf that St. Jude is an absolutely magnanimous place – they saved my grandson – I know that absolutely wonderful medical institutions are all around us. And I know how very important family/friend support can be. Stay where you are. St. Jude shares ALL strides they make in childhood cancer research and discovery. I am certain that Wolfson knows all the current treatment protocols and will give your precious Marjorie THE BEST there is in treatment for neuroblastoma.
